Managing patient triage more effectively

The NHS organisation I was working with had to improve the way it trained and instructed it’s staff in triaging patients. This was necessary for a number of reasons,

1) The constant turnover / recruitment of new staff.

2) The amount of staff sick due to Covid.

3) To maintain patient safety.

The answer was to create a web application that allowed senior doctors to dynamically match symptoms, gender, age, known patient issues to a suitable triage path.

The application was always available to staff to help with patient calls and could be quickly updated by Doctors to suit availability of medical staff and Covid symptoms as they became better understood.

The Solution

Using the brand new and incredibly fast PHP Framework, Trongate I was able to quickly develop a function web application which Doctors could use to start priming the database. Whilst they were doing this, I was able to write the functionality required for use by members of staff.
