A Testimonial website for the Surrey cricketer, Rory Burns.
A testimonial year in English County Cricket is where a long-serving player is honoured by their county or club for their loyalty and contributions over many years. During this year, various events and matches are organised in the player's name, and the proceeds usually go directly to charities chosen by the player.
A committee member from Surrey Cricket Club approached me and asked if I could create a website that covered the 2025 Rory Burns Testimonial. Rory Burns is the Surrey Cricket Club captain who has led them to three County Championships.
The website tells the story of the testimonial year, Rory Burns, his chosen charities and it has an events page. There is also a merchandise page, but not an on-line shop. All merchandise is to be sold via the club shop at the Kia Oval.
The committee were eager to get a website quickly. It was also clear that once the content was loaded, there would be very few if any edits afterwards. This meant that I could make a site easily and quickly without the need for a CMS or database.
I used Next JS and all the content is added using 'markdown' which means we get a blazingly fast website.
Just look at these Google Lighthouse scores. 0.9s speed index on mobile devices and 100% for accessibility and SEO.
